Doesn't have an elite top straight line speed, recorded a 4.47 40 yard dash. More quick than fast.
He is not a physical corner, so he doesn't play press very often. But when he does play press in goal line situations he holds his own.
Most noticeable part of his game. Incredibly quick with insane closing speed. He uses off coverage to take advantage of his quick cut ability.
He never gives up on a play. Likes to play off of receivers and use his quick closing speed as an advantage. Uses his hands extremely well to dislodge the ball from the receivers hands.
He is a mirroring corner back, which means he has to recognize what route the receiver is running to be able to cover him.
Plays an off coverage style so he is susceptible to quick routes where he has to tackle in space. He is a tremendous open space tackler.
He has the ability to lock down your best receiver. Has had great battles with Odell Beckam Jr. and Deandre Hopkins this past year.
He uses the fact that he plays a lot of off coverage to trick the offense into thinking he is playing man coverage when he is actually playing zone. Zone allows him to show off some of his insane closing speed.
He had 6 interceptions last year, but from his tape he dropped at least 4 or 5 more easy interceptions. This is a result from his closing speed.
Has only not started 2 games of his entire 3 year career.
Always plays until the whistle, and doesn't take plays off.
Been a starter since entering the league, has only improved since then.
White is already one of the best CB's in the NFL. His best attribute is his closing speed when the ball is thrown to his receiver. He likes to play off coverage in both man and zone where he can mirror the receivers route and then use his closing speed to make a play on the ball. With his off coverage his receivers get targeted more often than other top CB's, but as soon as the ball is in the air that is when Tre'Davious is at his best. He closes with great speed and uses his hands extremely well to separate the ball from the receiver. He also tackles in the open field with extreme confidence and success, when the ball is caught.
He is undersized at 5'11 190 lbs, this is why he doesn't like to play physical. White can get burned sometimes when facing an extremely fast deep ball threat because of his lack of an elite top speed. Also, because of his size, he can get over powered when facing big receivers 1 on 1. He can let up a lot of quick easy throws if he plays too far back.
White is an elite NFL CB, his closing speed to receivers is some of the best I've ever seen. And paired with his tenacity and amazing use of hands once the receiver touches the ball he can shut down some of the best WR's in the game. I am expecting him to have multiple all- pro team selections in the years to come.
