Player Scouting Report

Players Scouting Reviewer : TFriedlaender . Position :Quarterback [QB]

Arm Strength/Power
He has a good arm with the ability to throw any route. He can throw from different arm angles but he sometimes struggles with under throwing receivers deep.
Short Accuracy (1-10 yds)
He is really accurate with slants and in crossing routes, he is really good at delivering the ball from all kinds of arm angles. Can fit the ball in tight windows.
Imtermediate Accuracy (10-20 yds)
He is really good at fitting the ball in over linebackers in zone coverage. Can fit the ball in tight windows, and throws well to the sidelines.
Long Accuracy (20+ yds)
He likes seam routes and routes down the middle of the field, really good at hitting them in stride. Can struggle reaching outside fade routes to hit his receivers in stride. Good at the back shoulder and jump ball throws.
Pocket Presence
He is extremely calm in the pocket, he moves his feet well to extend plays with in the pocket. He steps up well and is a threat to run it. He is arguably better when he is getting blitzed, loves to either get the ball out quickly or when he can't he extends plays and pushes the ball down the field.
He loves to extend plays using his legs, and is really proficient at designed bootlegs and roll outs. He can throw from a lot of angles on the run and has the ability to run away from defenders and never really goes down from just one defender.
He reads the defenses well for the most part, can make a pre snap read and decisively get the ball out quickly. He can get stuck looking at one side of the field at times, DB's can read his eyes.
He has really good feet and mostly keeps his weight balanced and shoulders squared. His throwing motion is quick but it could be quicker.
Has started every game for the last two years.
Game Management
He has really good control of his offense. Generally good at protecting the ball especially late in the game, except when the team is losing he sometimes forces the ball into too tight of windows which leads to INT's.
He generally makes good decisions and has is very decisive with the ball. Can sometimes get too decisive and stare down his target, and then he may force a throw into a tight window.
6'3 230 lbs
He is used in a lot of designed runs. More of a power runner but can run away from defenders as well.
Play-Making Ability
He has the special ability to extend plays with his legs, he sheds off weak tacklers. Keeps his eyes down the field as he scrambles. He can run for big yards as well.
He has the stats of a top level QB, over 3,500 passing yards, 30 TD's, and 65% completion %. He just hasn't won as many games as you would expect a top level QB at a top program would win.
Throws for 200 yards or more every game, and has a TD in every game last season.
Sams best traits are his pocket presence and awareness, his ability to be creative with his throws by using different arm angles, and the fact that he can fit the ball in tight windows over the middle of the field. He stands in the pocket and moves with in the pocket with extreme confidence and poise rarely seems rushed, and knows when to throw it away or tuck and run. He consistently gets the ball over the LB's in coverage to hit his receivers over the middle, and uses arm angles to get the ball around defenders. He is used a lot in the running game as well with many designed runs, can pick up short yardage 1st downs.
His biggest weakness is probably his accuracy and lack of arm strength on deep balls, as well as his tendency to force the ball over the middle of the field. He is good throwing deep over the middle but his arm strength isn't elite so he can sometimes under throw on sideline fade routes. Most of his INT's came from forcing the ball over the middle of the field, he can stare his target down occasionally and DB's can jump the in cutting routes.
Overall Analysis
He is a really impressive college QB with his ability to run and his accuracy and passing skills, he also has a lot of playing experience. I think that Sam has a chance of making the NFL as a starter but he is more of a project and not much of a sure thing. He needs to show improvement on his overall accuracy to really be an NFL starter, since he doesn't have elite arm strength. But his play making could be special since he is so good at moving his feet in and out of the pocket, and he can potentially give you a dual threat guy at that position with the ability to run. Right now he is a 3rd or 4th round pick to me, but he can make the jump to 1st round if he has a Heisman caliber season similar to Joe Burrow.
