Player Scouting Report

Players Scouting Reviewer : myles.whitmore . Position :Quarterback [QB]

Arm Strength/Power
Has the arm strength necessary to make any pass on the field regardless of whether he has his feet set or not. He can deliver bullet passes into the smallest windows.
Short Accuracy (1-10 yds)
Extremely accurate at every level, especially at the short level due to his quick release and arm strength.
Imtermediate Accuracy (10-20 yds)
Baker threads the needle at the intermediate level, especially on passes near the sideline. Even when a defender is blanketed on a defender, Mayfield is able to place the ball where only the receiver can catch it.
Long Accuracy (20+ yds)
Baker Mayfield has elite level deep ball accuracy. He can throw the ball down the field and still have the ability to fit the ball into a tight window. One example of this is when Baker threw a pass deep down the field against the Panthers and completed the pass in between two defenders. In fact, Baker is ranked as the second-best quarterback when it comes to deep ball accuracy of all players who threw at least 40 deep passes.
Pocket Presence
Baker is a pain for defensive linemen because of his ability to step up in the pocket and evade pressure. He usually is able to recognize when a defender is going to blitz pre-snap and identify pressure post-snap
Has exceptional ability to maneuver within the pocket to extend plays and evade pressure. It usually takes two defenders in order to bring him down for a sack. He's frequently able to extend the play and move the chains.
Has above average vision, however, he sometimes fails to recognize when a defensive back is in his passing lane. This is partly due to Mayfield's gunslinger mentality, and his tendency to force passes into tight spaces.
Usually has good mechanics in the pocket, however, his mechanics deteriorate when he faces pressure. Plus, he often has happy feet in the pocket so his mechanics take a hit. Although similar to Rodgers, Mayfield is able to deliver accurate passes without setting his feet.
Had two concussions in college which could be problematic if he deals with another concussion in the NFL.
Baker Mayfield is able to energize his teammates during great times and adversity. For instance, he is known for going up to his receivers when they drop passes and making it clear that he still believes in their ability.
Game Management
Needs to limit the interceptions, especially when his team is down because he forces the ball into traffic when his team is losing. Although he knows when to push the ball down the field and make a great play.
Mayfield's decision making is great when his team is up, however, he forces the ball and makes bad decisions when his team is losing.
Mayfield is small for a quarterback at 6'1" and 215 lbs.
Mayfield has above-average speed for a QB with a 4.81 40-yard dash.
Play-Making Ability
Mayfield is always a threat for a big play due to his tight-window accuracy, throw on the run and arm strength.
Mayfield broke the rookie record for touchdowns at 27 and accumulated 3,700+ yards even though he only started in 13 games.
Mayfield's bravado is a big reason why the Browns' culture and chemistry transformed from accepting mediocrity to striving for excellence. He is a fan favorite and builds comradery with his teammates. He also is a hardworking athlete who had to fight for the starting position at Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Cleveland. But, his antics in college and on Twitter have the potential to create a distraction on occasions.
Mayfield had issues in college with his antics and legal issues. However, those legal issues were far from the worst the NFL has ever witnessed and he hasn't repeated that same behavior.
He is amazing when his team is up, but his IQ diminishes when his team is down. He needs to make sure he doesn't force throws into tight spaces.
Mayfield's strengths include tight-window accuracy, throw on the run, big-play ability, mobility and deep and intermediate accuracy along with his leadership.
Baker Mayfield needs to work on his decision making, consistency, and game management when his team is trailing.
Overall Analysis
Browns fans can rest easy knowing that Baker Mayfield is their franchise quarterback. He is one of the best young quarterbacks due to his exceptional ability to complete passes into tight spaces and make big plays down the field. He is a threat against opposing secondaries regardless of whether he throws at the short, intermediate or deep level or throw in the pocket or on the run. In addition, even pressure doesn't phase Mayfield, as he is frequently able to evade pass rushers and extend or stay in the pocket and deliver a pass despite intense pressure. He also is not phased on 3rd downs or in clutch situations. However, there are many areas to improve for the young signal-caller. For instance, he can improve on his game management and decision making when his team is trailing because he often forces passes when his team is down by 10+ points. If Baker can fix those consistency issues and maintain his accuracy and arm talent, he is likely to go down as one of the best quarterbacks of this century.
