Power Moves
Against Michigan, in 2019 1st QT 13:03 he showcases his ability to bull rush the tackle. He showcases this ability once again in the 1st QT against Michigan with 4:42 left in the first QT.
Finesse Moves
This is not his strong suit, because he's 6'5 277 and is more powerful than he is explosive. He needs to refine this part of his game.
I don't see it often times he wins with leverage rather than explosiveness. Against athletic tackles, he will struggle to get around them.
Block Shedding
This runs hot and cold because when he gets leverage h can bull rush and cause penetration. On the other hand, he can play high at times which causes him to be out leveraged and get washed out on the play.
He tackles using his big body to his advantage. He often tackles high and tries to overpower through the tackle rather than use his technique to get the ball carrier down.
I'am not in love with his pursuit at all and often times I see him being lazy. Considered one of the better edge rushers in college football but I don't see it. Once a runner is out of his reach he starts to jog Watch the Purdue game in 2019; It's frustrating
Honestly, I think he has a lot more in the tank and just doesn't show it. He 6'5 277 and he plays like he's 330 and out of shape at times. 14:53 in the 3rd QT against Purdue he just gets stuck on a block, that's horrible and hes better than that.
Even at full effort will not blow you away with anything special, again more of a power guy.
He's been healthy as far as I know.
He is 6'5 277 that is really good size for a defensive end. Can play either a 4-3 or 3-4.
I'm not sure as I have not met with him personally.
Needs to be refined a ton. Again his best play is when he has leverage on the tackle and is able to bull rush his way to the QB.
There is a lot of room to grow and the potential is there for him to be a very good player.
10.5 sacks in 2018 and 7 sacks in 2019 so his production is really solid.
He showcases a very powerful bull rush. I have even seen him use a bull rush with one hand and us the other to grab the ball carrier. That is very exciting to watch and the upside is there for him to accel and be a good player.
Does not possess any pass-rushing moves outside of a bull rush. I didn't see any spin or rip. He often bull rushes with his head down as well which is not good. But my biggest knock on him is his effort. Often times he gets blocked and stays put. He doesn't get off of his blocks and doesn't try to get involved in a play even when the ball carrier is less than a yard away from him. It's infuriating to watch.
Overall Analysis
He is not ready to face in NFL tackle and power alone will not be enough. Right now he will make little impact unless he changes his mindset and decides to apply more effort in his game. My comparison is based on his upside and what I feel he can become, but by no means is he at this player's level yet. My draft grade is based on where he is now. Rounds(4-6)
