Overall Game Assessment
USA has to be kicking themselves over this result. They had the better of chances in the first half that including an Altidore breakaway, and several half chances. The second half was all Mexico, and they finished a late chance and held on for the victory. Also, something worth mentioning is Mexico missing arguably their two best players, Carlos Vela and Chucky Lozano who would give the US outside backs nightmares. Despite not having these two, El Tri managed to secure the result.

Offense Comments
The US did not lose for a lack of chances. The chances were there, but they did not convert. Set pieces were aplenty, but lacking creativity. In the first half, US controlled tempo and generated pressure, but in the second half, they were non threatening at all.

Defense Comments
Defensively, Aaron Long and Matt Miazga held their own. They thwarted most of Mexico's opportunities, and Mexico was most dangerous going at Michael Bradley, who was a liability in every aspect.

Midfield Comments
Weston Mkinney did his best to cover as much ground as possible and break up Mexicos possession. It was an admirable effort. But paired next to Michael Bradley is difficult for anyone. He had many giveaways, technical breakdowns, and defensive lapses.

Coaching Comments
Taking off Jozy Altidore for Zardes is an understandable substitution. Altidore has been public about his lack of fitness and not being able to last 90 minutes. However, when the US went down a goal, the Daniel Lovitz substitution did not make much sense. He is a left back who subbed in for Tim Ream, another LB, but Ream was one of the best players on the field for the US last night and down a goal, I would expect a winger to come on to be more dangerous. Perhaps Tyler Boyd.
