Analysis: 

The most popular team in the New York tristate area based on social media presence are the New York Yankees.  This is to be expected as per Forbes the Yankees are the most valuable franchise in the New York tristate area.   The New York Knicks and New York Giants, are the second and third respectively, based on their social media presence.  The New York Rangers were the most popular hockey team in the area based on their social media presence.  The New York City FC have an impressive social media presence considering the club began playing at Yankee Stadium in 2015.  New York City FC has the fifth most likes of the local teams on Facebook and is above some teams that have a long history.  Additional analysis based on number of social media posts total and per day might provide some further insight on variables that might impact the popularity of each team on social media.
