Week 9 Pick’em

Last week: 4-1

Season Total: 31-9

#8 Georgia vs #6 Florida This is always a great game in Jacksonville and it rarely features a top ten match up. Florida is ranked higher by virtue of a better loss but make no mistake, Georgia I a batter team with far more talent and depth in addition to superior play at critical positions like quarterback. Dan Mullen will whine his way to a couple of favorable calls but ultimately Georgia will put Florida in their place as Jake Fromm is the difference. Georgia 27 Florida 17

#15 SMU at #24 Memphis SMU is the surprise team of 2019 and the Group of 5’s only real chance to make the playoffs. The game is one of a very few number of Group of 5 games to host the College Game Day crowd. Memphis is a good team and plays well at home but SMU looks like they are in the middle of a special season. SMU 41 - Memphis 38.

Indianapolis at Pittsburgh On paper this looks like it should be an easy Colts win but the Steelers are managing to overcome the loss of a lot of talent through free agency and injury. Without James Connor it’s tough to see how the Steelers can keep the Colts defense honest. Colts 30 - Pittsburgh 13

Chicago at Philadelphia Two of the more disappointing teams of 2019 so far meet in Veterans stadium. The Bears are learning that all kickers miss field goals and that having horrible quarterback play is far more detrimental to a teams success, or lack there of. It looks like the Bears are going to waste a historically good defense by not having a capable offense. The Eagles, meanwhile, are impossible to predict from week to week. I think they’ll be just good enough to out last the Bears. Eagles 20 - Chicago 10

New England at Baltimore This is quite the game. The Patriots defense is something special and Lamar Jackson poses an interesting threat. Will New England take away the passing game and force the Ravens to run, take away the running game and make Jackson win by throwing the ball, or find a way to keep Jackson in the pocket and still disrupt his passing lanes? They should be able to win with whatever they choose to do, but it won’t be easy for them. New England 27 - Baltimore 24
