Week 8 Picks
Last Week 4-1
#8 Note Dame at #19 Michigan: The Wolverines are a different team at home but are they as good as Notre Dame? The Irish are probably a second tier team but they have played a top tier Georgia team on the road so they are battle tested. Michigan at home is also a second tier team, though barely, but likely they aren’t good enough to beat the Irish, though it should be close. Notre Dame 31-Michigan 23
#13 Wisconsin at #3 Ohio State: I’m not really sure what happened with Wisconsin last week but their loss to Illinois was inexplicable. Ohio State is a top tier team, though still over ratted, but they have both talent and depth which makes them a difficult game for teams like Wisconsin that need everything to go right in order to compete with college footballs elite. Last weeks loss will motivate the Badgers but it won’t be enough. Ohio State 34 - Wisconsin 17
#9 Auburn at #2 LSU: This looks like a game that Auburn will keep close but ultimately lose. Malzahn has never won in Baton Rouge and this is the first decent team he’s played there. It’s possible that LSU is looking ahead to Alabama, Orgeron isn’t the kind of coach that can keep his teams focused, but Auburn’s really got to hope that their defensive line can create some takeaways and limit LSU’s scoring chances. That’s a tough ask. LSU 27 - Auburn 19
Carolina at San Francisco: The Panthers had a bye week to prepare and actually match up rather well with the 49ers running game. The 49ers defense is stifling but it will be far more difficult for them to take Christian McCaffery out of the game plan than it would be a single receiver. If this game was in Carolina I might feel differently but I think the 49ers can win ugly . San Francisco - 24 Carolina 13.
Green Bay at Kansas City: This would have been the game of the week, and quite possibly the passing of the guard among NFL quarterbacks, but the injury to Pat Mahomes leaves the Chiefs as a shell of their once mighty selves. Even before the injury Mahomes and company were slowing down considerably after the torrid pace they started the season with. Meanwhile the Packers are on fire the last two weeks. I expect both trends to continue. Green Bay 38 - Kansas City 20
