The single defining trait of the 2016 NFL draft class is it’s talent along the defensive front 7. No fewer than 15 players carry first round grades and teams will be able to find immediate starters deep into the drafts second day. Defensive tackles, ends, and outside linebackers should start coming off the board early and often throughout the top 50 picks. Today we’ll look at the top defensive linemen.

Defensive Tackle:

  1. Shawn Billings, Baylor Billings can do everything and is the best tackle in a deep class. Top ten pick.

  2. A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama Robinson is the most talented defensive lineman by far but needs to play to that level more consistently. Top 15 pick.

  3. Jarron Reed, Alabama Reed is a strong and consistent force that eats up blockers without giving ground. Top 25 pick.

  4. Robert Nkemediche Off field issues have kept Nkemediche from being a top 5 selection. He’s still a first round pick. Top 30 pick.

Honorable Mention: Sheldon Rankins, Louisville; Jonathan Bullard, Florida; Bullard is better than people realize. He could sneak into the late first round. Rankins is a first round talent. Both should be gone by pick 40.

Sleeper: Sheldon Day, Notre Dame

Defensive End:

  1. Joey Bosa, Ohio State. Bosa is considered by many to be the best player in the draft. He’s not, but he’s still a top 5 pick.

  2. Deforest Buckner, Oregon Buckner offers great size and athleticism. Top 10 pick.

  3. Shaq Lawson, Clemson Lawson is a great athlete that needs to focus to get the most out of his tools. Top 20 pick

Honorable Mention: Emmanuel Ogbah, Oklahoma State; Kevin Dodd, Clemson Either Dodd or Ogbah could be taken in the top 20. More likely they will both go between picks 25 and 35.

Sleeper: Shawn Oakman, Baylor Don’t sleep on Oakman. He’s not likely to be taken until the third round at the earliest but he carries a mid second round grade. He could be a great value pick in the third or fourth round.
