Season Report Card

Overall Team Analysis
Overall Position Analysis
Forwards
B
The Rangers got a good amount of production from guys like Zibanejad, Kreider, Buchnevich, Vesey, and Strome who all scored over 15 goals. However the only one of this players who had a positivities plus/minus was Kreider at 4.
Defense
C-
Their blueline has was very bad. Shattenkirk hasn't lived up to the potential when they signed him, and Brendan Smith and Marc Staal looked lost out there all season.
Goaltending
B-
Lundqvist did his best with the team he had. His GAA wasn't his best, but he's getting older. The hope is that Georgiev can be consistent so he can become the predecessor to Lundqvist. The Rangers have had a great goaltender system so I'm not too worried about that position in the future.

Overall Analysis
The offense showed some promise throughout the season. They have a lot of depth, which is key in an 82 game season. They also will have more young talent for next year as the 9th pick last year, Vitali Kravtsov, should make the roster. They also struck gold and moved up to the #2 pick in the draft, where they will likely get either Jack Hughes or Kappo Kakko, who both shape up to be franchise players.

Overall Analysis
The defense is in need of the biggest changes in the offseason. Most defensemen on the roster are old and way out of their prime and cannot compete with the younger players anymore. Hopefully their 22nd overall pick of last year K'andre Miller will be on the team next season.

Overall Analysis
By the time the Rangers are Stanley Cup competitors, Lundqvist will probably be retired. Hopefully Georgiev can follow in his footsteps as best as possible. However, their goaltender prospect Igor Shestyorkin is said to have the potential to become a superstar.

David Quinn is the perfect coach for this team. They are only getting younger and he has been known to develop young players very well.

Season Analysis
Although they didn't make the playoffs, they won more games than expected. They were projected the 6th pick and ended up getting the 2nd which is a huge jump.

Yes
Outlook For Next Season
Depending on how their prospects pan out and who they sign in the offseason, I give it 1 or 2 years until they are back in the postseason as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. They have a good amount of goal scorers already and they will just add more with Kravtsov. They will find their franchise player for the next 10 years in either Hughes or Kakko. They need to address the defensive issues in the offseason and hopefully they can find just as good a replacement for Lundqvist.
