Rutgers' problems started with the QB. Sitkowski should not have been the starter on opening day. They tried to play him up as the savior and instead wasted the hope of fans! Rescigno is not spectacular, but he found ways to win and make Rutgers competitive in the past. Lewis is a solid dual threat player who would have provided more production behind an inferior line. Instead, Rutgers wasted a 5th year senior in Rescigno and likely drove out Lewis while possibly destroying Sitkowski's psyche.
Expected more from Blackshear and Hilliman. They were unspectacular most of the season. Pacheco provided a nice spark but overall, they was just not enough blocking support for this unit to be effective - even though it was probably the strength of the offense.
Protection & Blocking
I expected the line to be much better than what we saw this season. With a true freshman QB and no time to throw, this was a disaster waiting to happen.
This was a young and undersized unit, but they were non-existent all season too! Too many drops, lazy route-running, poor blocking, etc. The receiving corps might be even a bigger disappointment than the QBs.
Skills Analysis Notes
There is not much success to take away from the offense's performance this season. They were bad, really bad.
Rutgers will not be competitive in the Big Ten unless they can stop the run. They were torched way too much on the ground to give the team a shot!
No comments necessary. They were just bad...
This unit might have actually played better than I would have expected. But, still not enough to say it was a success.

Overall Coaching / School Analysis
The coaching staff completely botched the QB situation this season. The rest of the season just went downhill from there. With a 5th year senior in Rescigno and a dual threat QB in Jonathan Lewis, they should have saved Sitkowski until later in the season. Rutgers was not going to be competitive this season, so what would have had to lose in building him up over a few games before their threw him to the wolves. Resigno and Lewis both would bring a more mobile dimension that would have compensated for a weaker offensive line. It would have also opened it up mor for the running game - which was probably the best unit on the offense.
On defense, there was just no answer. Rutgers gave up just way too much yardage on the ground for it to matter. Getting torched by Buffalo and Kansas in the same season does not help build a program!
This team did not give up, but the coaches did not help them either.
Not much that can be salvaged here. The coaches did not help this team this season. It is not as if a bowl season was expected, but just some morsel of progress would have been fine. Rutgers managed to destroy ay shred of fan confidence it would have going into next season.
Did the team's performance
meet your expectations?
I predicted a 4-8 season, so they missed. I can take losses to a stronger than usual Buffalo team and Kansas, but not blowout losses. It is hard to feel good about where the program is heading on this one.
