Overall Team Grade & Expectations
Outlook For Next Season
Pindell showed something down the stretch, enough that Huskies fans can have hope going into next season. With 2 additional redshirts in the mix, there might actually be a true QB competition for next year.
There is no clear go-to guy in the backfield. UConn had 6 players with at least 10 carries on the season. Freshmen Mensah and Hopkins showed some good things, but neither was a break away threat. But, at least they have some building blocks there for the future and those two will only get better.
Protection & Blocking
This was there achilles heel - one QB missed half the season with a concussion. The other struggled under pressure. With two freshmen RBs leading the way, they needed a little bit more from the O-Line to give them a chance.
This group was young too. Arkeel Newsome was the only senior to receive more than 10 passes, so there will be a lot of returning talent next year. But, with a young group and issues at QB, this corps was inconsistent at best
Skills Analysis Notes
There is some raw talent here, but it will take some time to develop it.
There was not much of a pass rush from this senior-heavy crew. You would have expected much more from them.
The pressure fell squarely on the linebackers in this defense and it was probably the best of a really bad defense. They will be losing their top two tacklers, so 2018 will be a question mark.
This group struggled all season. With 2 senior CBs, you would have expected more from them. They averaged over 330 yd/game against them, so not too much good you can take away!
