Season Report Card

Overall Rating
Overall Team Grade
D
This was the defending World Cup Champions!!!!!! What happened to them? This was not the Germany team that you would expect. They did show good possession, but just did not have that second gear that they really needed. They were outplayed by Mexico to start the tournament and they needed a miraculous Tony Kroos goal to beat a Sweden team that played well enough to win that one. The South Korea game was just a disaster!
Offense
C-
Germany has always had firepower, but they had little of it here. They served up chances against Sweden, but could just not finish! They finished the World Cup with only 2 goals!!!!! ONLY 2 GOALS!!!!! Good riddance to them, they did not deserve to move on.
Defense
B+
Defense was not bad against Mexico and Sweden, but they broke down against South Korea.
Midfield
A-
Possession is the key to Germany's game and they possessed well. Finishing was there problem.
Goalkeeping
B
Neuer is one of the best in the world, but he was not at 100%. He did not look as crisp as usual.
Overall Analysis
This Germany team did not have the leadership and veteran presence that it usually needs to succeed. They did have Mueller, Neuer, Kroos and other players, but they desperately missed a major offensive threat that they usually had with guys like Klose, Podolski, and (gasp) J├╝rgen Klinsmann! They could just not convert on chances and it came back to bit them.
Did the team meet expectations?
F
No excuse to not make it out of this group! Sweden was the third best team, but they played over their potential. Germany did not even come close!
Outlook for Next Competition / Season
This was a younger Germany team, so the good news is that it will be back in Qatar!
