Senegal got lucky against Poland on a controversial substitution that caught the Polish defender by surprise. But, despite that, the team did still perform very well and was probably the team that should have advanced from the group with Colombia. I think they were more explosive than Japan and had more star power too. They got screwed on the yellow cards tiebreaker, but that was the rule!
They definitely showed some punch in this group with 4 goals.
They had the advantage of size here against smaller Japan and Colombia teams. They packed the defense against Colombia and Poland and it kept them in the game.
Their counterattacks made the difference.
Senegal probably played better that expected overall. They were probably Africa's best chance to make the knockout stage.
