No Cespedes really left a big hole in the Mets lineup. Conforto did well, but this was definitely a weak point for the team. They were definitely in the lower half of the league.
Did the Team Meet Expectations?
Mets should have been in the hunt. Instead, there was competing to not finish last.
The Mets were tied for last with the Phillies for batting average on the season. They just never seemed able to get the big hit!
We decent run production, this could have been a playoff team. the pitching was there...
Overall Season Analysis
Starting pitchers were awesome. Might be best in league. They had no power and even worst run production and batting average. Injuries were killers with Wright, Cespedes, Conforto and others out for long stretches. But, the Mets really need to fix their offense. You will start to lose pitchers soon in free agency, so the clock is ticking on this team.
Overall Offensive Grade
The Mets were not expecting to turn heads this season, but they were not expecting to be as bad as they were either.
Pitching & Defense
DeGrom might with the Cy Young from a losing team! Wheeler looked awesome in the second half of the season. Syndergaard was solid. They might have had the best starting rotation in the league!
Familia was out a good portion of the season. Middle relief was inconsistent.
Overall Pitching Grade

Every Mets starter has reason to be upset with this season. What a wasted pitching effort...,Every Mets starter has reason to be upset with this season. What a wasted pitching effort...
Team Management Assessment
Looking Ahead …
What needs to be done to improve next season?
Offense, Offense, Offense. They will get Cespedes back, but they need more in this line up. They will officially move on from Wright at 3rd, so, that gives them a big spot to fill for a power hitter.
