It's hard to give a team with a rookie quarterback a B or higher, especially one as unconventional as Kyler Murray. Still, Kingsbury got his guy and he's n offensive genius, right?
I expect a big season from Johnson this season with ample opportunities in space.
Protection & Blocking
The scheme will help them because Murray should be throwing quickly, but this isn't the most talented line.
Fitzgerald and Johnson are solid hands, Kirk was promising as a rookie, and the team drafted three receivers in April. Hakeem Butler is the one to watch.
Big Play Ability
Red Zone Success
Skills Analysis Notes
So much of this is an unknown. Kingsbury's system has done well in the Big 12. It will be interesting to see if he, the most unqualified coach in the modern NFL, has the skills to adapt to the rigors of NFL game planning. Still, there is enough talent that they should have some big plays and red zone success.
Robert Nkemdiche is gone, which appears to be a plus, but other than Chandler Jones and Corey Peters there isn't much here.
Adding Suggs should help Reddick develop. Hicks and Reed are two solid veteran hands.
I think Peterson is the best corner in the game and I thought Murphy was the best corner in last years class. Also the Cardinals have quietly built some quality depth at safety.
Passing Game Defense
Stopping the Run
Controlling Field Position
Stopping The Big Play
Skills Analysis Notes
Vance Joseph is a good coach,we'll see what he can do scheme wise, but I expect this defense to have some lapses at times. If only due to having to play too much.
Special Teams and Coaching
Overall Unit Analysis
I expect the Cardinals to be competitive on special teams, mostly. The Cardinals have added a lot of speed to their back up defenders and that usually translates into solid special teams play. I'm not convinced Gonzalez will be the kicker at the start of the season, much less for the entire season.
Overall Coaching / School Analysis
These are really all incomplete until we see how the new coaching staff does.
Overall Team Grade
I have too many questions about the coaching and line play to rate them much better than a C-. They almost certainly won't be an average team this season, but they might be fun to watch.
I expect a lot of big plays on both sides of the ball but I also expect the defense to tire from too many minutes and the offense is still an unknown. NFL defensive coordinators aren't known for being anything like Big 12 defensive coordinators.
