Season Outlook Analysis

Offense
Position
Quarterbacks
C+
Eli Manning has been terrible the last two seasons, yet the Giants cannot bring themselves to move on. 1st Rounder Daniel Jones is cut from the same cloth as Manning size and skills wise, but he has more of a learning curve to be able to play right away. They really don't have another viable option here. If Manning gets off the a bad start, Giants fans will be calling for management's heads!
Running Backs
A-
Saquon Barkley is a flat out awesome player. Gallman was a high round pick too and a capable player, but the Giants are really thin after that. An injury to either one and the Giants are again on thin ice.
Protection & Blocking
C+
Solder underperformed last season after coming from the Patriots. The rest of the unit is unspectacular. If they don't play well, the run-first offense is in trouble!
Receiving
B
Sterling Shepherd has not quite lived up to the hype of his Oklahoma days. Gone is the flashy OBJ and in comes Golden Tate. Tate is a solid WR, but would be better as a #2 option. TEs are usually a strength for the Giants, but Engram has been average in his first couple seasons. Conrad is a highly regarded TE, but we will see. This is another thin position.

Skills Analysis Notes
The Giants are top heavy this season. But if those premium players like Barkley, Tate, and Shepard can make plays, this can be exciting. Of course, that also is dependent on Manning being at least decent this season. If their top line players get hit with injuries, there is not a lot of depth and experience behind them.
Defense
Position
Defensive Line
C
This is a very young and inexperienced unit. There are not real names in here too. So, they will need someone to step up in a big way for this unit to succeed and play consistently.
Linebackers
C
Remember Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, etc? Well, there is nothing close in this bunch! Another patchwork unit that is young and inexperienced. Couple that with a weak DL, they will not scare many teams with their front 7.
Defensive Backs
B-
The DBs will probably be the strength of the defense. They have some young corners who they drafted this season that wil will be pressed into action opposite Jenkins. Jabril Peppers can be an exciting player in front of his hometown fans, but the overall weakness of the defense may limit his ability to be dynamic. Again, there is not too much experience behind the first unit here.

Skills Analysis Notes
The DBs should be able to make some big plays, but it will be a matter of whether the front 7 can stop the run or put pressure on opposing QBs. I don't know that they will have the right personnel against a strong division. Stopping the run will be paramount and I just don't see enough there to give me reasonable hope.

Kicking has and will continue to be an issue. Interesting to see who they have return kicks, but they got plenty of options there.

Overall Coaching / School Analysis
Shurmur is wedded to Eli Manning and will live or die with him. They need consistency from Manning and decent performance from their WRs. If they get hit with injuries, this will be a long season!

Expectations/ Outlook
They have a tough schedule this season. The Bears, Packers, Patriots, etc. While there are some winnable non-conference games such as the Dolphins, Jets, Lions, etc., they will be forced to top divisional rivals and win at least one of the big games to have a shot at the playoffs. I just don't see it with this roster.
