Giants may have missed the boat on their next franchise quarterback

10 Oct, 2018

There's no other way to put it: Eli Manning is done.. He wasn't good last season, when the Giants managed just three wins. While Manning is a big reason for the Giants' woes, the team has had other issues too. The offensive line has been an issue and the defense, which was solid as recently as 2016. Not a whole lot has changed this season so far as the Giants are again limping through.

The Giants actually had a dilemma in this year's draft. With the 2nd pick in the draft, they chose to take running back Saquon Barkley instead of first round quarterbacks including Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, or Lamar Jackson. To their credit, Barkley has been as good as advertised. But, Manning's decline has offset Barkley's success and neutralized weapons such as Odell Beckham, Jr.

OBJ made public comments this weekend lashing at the Giants offense - much of the blame aimed at Manning. It's why the Giants should seriously  need to consider drafting the quarterback they didn't in 2018. They gave up on 3rd round pick Davis Webb, who they had hoped would take over for Manning someday. The drafted 4th rounder Lyle Laulletta out of Richmond this season after an impression Senior Bowl. But after that, the cupboard is bare. 2019 is not a great quarterback draft either. So, the Giants can really be left scratching its head.
